Scholarship Programs to Maintain Steady Supply of Filipino Seafarers

To ensure a considerable supply of Filipino seafarers worldwide, the Philippine’s Overseas Workers and Welfare Administration (OWWA) announced the Seafarer’s Upgrading Program Training.

The said government agency will be providing training assistance to seafarers to upgrade and update their knowledge and skills through sponsorships. Each seafarer can have a scholarship grant of up to P 7,500.00.

OWWA will also give scholarship grants to qualified graduates of Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering who wish to graduate as Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering. The graduates can possibly board ocean-going vessels as qualified Marine Officers through referrals from manning agencies after passing the licensure examination.

A financial incentive of P 30, 000 will also be given to the top 200 cadets of BS Marine Transportation and BS Engineering who passed maritime school assessment program. This is part of the education for development scholarship program of the OWWA.
